Isn’t it great that the Premier League has kicked off again? Sure, the World Cup filled a football-shaped hole in my life for a short period over the summer, but it doesn’t compare to watching the English domestic league every week.
So what have we learnt from the opening weekend of the season? Well, it seems Chelsea aren’t going to give their title up lightly. They destroyed newly-promoted West Brom, who simply couldn’t cope with the power of Didier Drogba and co. after conceding an early goal, and ended up losing 6-0.
That’s now 21 goals the champions have scored in their last three league games at Stamford Bridge. It’s going to be tough to wrest the crown from Carlo Ancelotti’s side this year, but perhaps United have already put down an early marker with that Community Shield victory.
So, the Premier League table has a slightly familiar look after just one game, with Chelsea sitting top on goal difference, and United right up there after what was a routine but nonetheless encouraging 3-0 win over Newcastle.
Surprise of the weekend has to be Premier League new-boys Blackpool, who sit second after a remarkable 4-0 thumping of Wigan. The Latics were poor but
