Continuing our 20-day showcase of suggestions for the Reds' greatest-ever player...
As United’s midfield magician for the past 17 seasons, Paul Scholes has been the creative force behind much of the Reds success.
Forever on his toes, always looking for – and finding – the killer pass, Paul Scholes, now 36, has aged impeccably. Fourth in the club’s appearance list, he has brought vision and class to the engine-room for the past 16 years. Part of the ‘You’ll win nothing with kids’ XI, he’s won the lot, with his 2008 Champions League semi-final clincher against Barça the chief thunderbolt among a century-and-a-half of goals.
What they say: "He’s almost untouchable. I never tire of watching him play. You rarely come across the complete footballer, but Scholes is as close to it as you can get." – Zinedine Zidane
