Two superb strikes from Darron Gibson gave fans plenty to smile about as the Reds booked a place in the Carling Cup semi finals.
Sir Alex will have been pleased too - his young charges had come under fire after defeat to Besiktas in Europe six days earlier, but against a strong Spurs side, many of those same players showed their futures are exceedingly bright.
Gibson, in particular, caught the eye. His goals aside, the Irishman showed grit and guile in the centre of midfield. Alongside him, Anderson stamped his authority with a raft of full-blooded tackles and raking cross-field passes.
Elsewhere there were classy performances from Danny Welbeck, Ritchie De Laet, Dimitar Berbatov and Nemanja Vidic, while Ji-sung Park completed 90 minutes for the first time since mid-August. Next up, Manchester City…
