To mark 30 years since United's first foreign signing - Nikola Jovanovic - ManUtd.com and Inside United journalists picked an all-time eleven of players from outside the UK and Ireland. We then compiled the ultimate team from all the votes cast...
In goal: Great Dane Peter Schmeichel got every vote as first-choice stopper, with Edwin van der Sar a unanimous choice as back-up. Spare a thought for Fabien Barthez – two titles in three seasons, yet no place for him here.
At the back: Jaap Stam and Patrice Evra both made every team. Vidic took nearly every vote so he partners Stam, while at right-back Ronny Johnsen held off a challenge from Henning Berg; experienced Mikael Silvestre is unlucky not to feature.
In midfield: Cristiano Ronaldo took every vote and Andrei Kanchelskis all but a couple. Juan Sebastian Veron was a near-unanimous choice for centre midfield, with Arnold Muhren next most popular. Anderson and Jesper Olsen each earn a place on the bench.
