When United announced the capture of Javier Hernandez in April, the almost universal reaction was, "Who?".
In just three months, though, the 22-year-old has become a household name. Of course, signing for United largely took care of that, but two goals at the World Cup – one a superb effort against Argentina – ensured Sir Alex's initial claims that the Reds had nabbed "an exciting young striker" sounded more like understatement than hyperbole.
Those summer exertions for his country meant the man they call Chicharito – he'll wear that on the back of his shirt – only joined the Reds on pre-season tour on Monday. Since then he's participated in a charity visit to a Houston hospital and undergone two training sessions with his new team-mates. He'll hope to make his first appearance in a United shirt on Wednesday when the Reds play an MLS All-Star XI at the Reliant Stadium (coverage on MUTV and MUTV Online from 00:30 Thursday).
