When we opened our diaries and saw Denis Law turned 71 today, we didn't need much of an excuse to dust off some old footage of the Reds' original goal-machine.
If there’s a checklist for a United player, the Lawman ticks every box. He was brilliant, brave, brash, and as natural a six-yard box snaffler as they come, claiming no fewer than 18 hat-tricks amongst his 237 goals for the club.
The great Scot's kingly swagger reignited the hopes and dreams of all Reds after Munich. Instrumental in the 1963 FA Cup win, he was named European Footballer of the Year in 1964. After helping United to win league titles in 1965 and 1967, he was unfortunate to miss the 1968 European Cup final triumph through injury.
What they say: “Denis was the sharpest striker I had ever seen, and he was also the most unselfish. He was seconds quicker than anyone else in thought and deed.” – Sir Matt Busby
