United's last Carling Cup meeting with Crystal Palace - the Reds' next opponents in the 2011/12 competition - was on this day (10 November) in 2004.
Seventeen-year-old striker Giuseppe Rossi came off the bench to make his first-team debut after his move from Parma as the Reds cruised into the quarter-finals.
Louis Saha and Kieran Richardson's first-half goals set up United's 2-0 win before Rossi gained his first taste of action four minutes from time. The US-born striker miscued a chance to mark his introduction with a spectacular volley from the edge of the box.
Check out our video reminder of the action ahead of the next cup date with the Eagles later this month.
