Video: Sharpe hat-trick

On 28 November 1990, United offered a real glimpse of the devastating attacking football the manager was trying to get his emerging side to play.

Arsenal, one of the top sides in the country, were demolished on their home patch in the Rumbelows Cup with Lee Sharpe really coming of age with a sublime hat-trick. The shrewd signing from Torquay surprisingly didn't score with his favoured left foot, notching two right-footed efforts and a header as the Londoners' much-vaunted defence was ripped apart.

Danny Wallace, in arguably his finest display in the United shirt, also got on the scoresheet along with Welsh duo Clayton Blackmore and Mark Hughes while Alan Smith's double was scant consolation for the shell-shocked Gunners.
