Southampton 0 United 1 | FA Premier League | Monday 24 August 1992 | Att: 15,623
United’s first Premier League clash with Southampton will forever be in the record books as a starting point for the Reds' era of domination.
After opening the 1992/93 season with two defeats and a draw, the Reds were still seeking a first victory in the newly-named top flight of English football and in vital need of three points to kick-start the campaign. United were also targeting a first clean sheet and looking more solid than in previous weeks - hence the game at The Dell appeared to be heading for a goalless draw until new signing Dion Dublin intervened.
With full-time fast approaching, the summer capture from Cambridge United claimed his first goal for the club - on the occasion of his first start after three substitute appearances - to seal the Reds' first win in the Premier League. The 1-0 victory at Southampton cued a run of 14 games unbeaten in all competitions, en route to United's first title in 26 years.
