Video: City slayer

Eric Cantona scored each time he started a game against Manchester City, hitting eight goals past four different keepers.

"It is a great rivalry," the great man told MUTV. "I played against City. We won most of the time. I scored most of the time. United were confident, more arrogant sometimes, particularly against your rivals. And even if you weren’t arrogant you wanted to show them you were because you wanted to hurt them.”

DERBY DEBUT (6.12.92)
While he might not have scored on his first appearance, as a substitute, his opening gambit showed glimpses of brilliance. “There was one moment early in the second half when he suddenly got clear down the right to knock in a great cross,” explained Mark Hughes, who scored United’s first in a 2-1 win. “I thought, the fellow can certainly play a bit, and if he carries on like that I’ll score more than I miss.”

HEADS YOU WIN (20.03.93)
The next time Cantona faced City, the Reds were suffering title jitters but Eric helped salvage a crucial draw. On 71 minutes, Hughes released Lee Sharpe down the left while Cantona sprinted alongside him in the centre of the park. Sharpe delivered a tantalising cross that found the Frenchman enjoying the freedom of the City box, and he showed bull-like neck strength to arrow a header into the net.

MAINE MAN (7.11.93)
Four days after an infamous 0-0 draw with Galatasaray with Cantona sent off, the Reds faced another hostile excursion, this time to Maine
