Poll: February star?
The Reds won three of the five games in February and the only defeat mattered little in the overall context of the Europa League tie with Ajax as United still progressed to face Athletic Bilbao in the Round of 16.
The other fixture was, of course, the thrilling comeback at Chelsea in the 3-3 draw and it's no surprise that it was difficult whittling down the contenders for a shortlist for the Player of the Month accolade. .David De Gea
With Anders Lindegaard injured, the Spaniard played all five matches and is looking confident during his extended run. A couple of superb saves from Juan Mata and Gary Cahill preserved a point at Chelsea and he made stunning stops to thwart Siem De Jong in both legs against Ajax. An assured performance at Carrow Road, which put him in contention for the man of the match award, rounded things off nicely.
The Northern Ireland international needed to step up to the plate in Nemanja Vidic's absence when injuries also hit Phil Jones and Chris Smalling. The response has been emphatic with the centre-back appearing to thrive on more responsibility and producing a string of top-class performances. A feature of his play has been his tendency to gracefully move forward and start attacks and he'll look to maintain this form until the end of the season.
Scoring goals is his stock-in trade and he came up trumps when the chips were down at Chelsea by coming off the bench to head in a priceless equaliser. A return to the starting line-up for the tie at Ajax saw the Mexican net the all-important second goal and he followed that up with the opener in the second leg at Old Trafford with a finish that bore the hallmark of a poacher full of confidence.
