Tales of 11/12: Scholes

Our summer series takes a look at some of the season's many positives and sub-plots...

Paul Scholes' decision to come out of retirement came as a pleasant surprise and there is no doubt he had a major impact on the second half of the season.

After coming on as a substitute in the FA Cup win at Manchester City, he showed he had lost none of his class and produced some influential performances as the Reds slugged it out with the Blues for the league title.

In addition to scoring four times, he often controlled the play with his passing skills and was particularly outstanding in the wins against QPR and Aston Villa at Old Trafford. By signing a one-year contract extension at the end of May, the ginger-haired genius has guaranteed he'll grace the red shirt for at least another season.

Check out MUTV's video of the story behind Scholes' sensational return.
