Best game: In the last game of 2006, United shaded a five-goal thriller at Old Trafford as the Royals went down fighting. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's opener was cancelled out by Ibrahima Sonko's header following a rare error by Edwin van der Sar. Cristiano Ronaldo restored the lead and, after Sam Sodje's red card, it looked plain sailing when the Portugal international smashed in a third. However, Leroy Lita's late effort made for a nervous finale.

Best goal: Ronaldo's equaliser in the first top-level meeting between the clubs was sheer quality. Jeered throughout by the home fans after his infamous wink to the camera at the World Cup, the winger instantly controlled John O'Shea's volleyed pass and ran at Graeme Murty. With the defender backpedalling, he lashed a fierce drive beyond Marcus Hahnemann for a wonderful individual strike.

Low point: A goalless draw on the first weekend of the 2007/2008 season ensured a frustrating start to the campaign for United. Even Dave Kitson's red card, within moments of coming on as a
