May ended up being something of an anti-climax for United fans, but a number of Reds turned in top performances in the matches against Swansea and Sunderland.
Five men are on our shortlist for our final Player of the Month award for 2011/12 – none of whom have already picked up the award this season.
Patrice Evra and Rio Ferdinand earn nominations for their performances at the back (Rio, remember, was solid at Sunderland despite picking up a groin injury in the dying minutes of the Swansea game), while midfielders Michael Carrick, Paul Scholes and Ashley Young round out the voting options.
Carrick’s passing was particularly effective against Swansea and he even set up fellow nominee Scholes for that game’s opening goal. Young, meanwhile, provided United’s main attacking thrust against the Swans and was similarly lively at the Stadium of Light.
