Sir Alex's favourite goal

United's most important goal of 2011/12 may still be to come - but voting for the best strike has now closed after one of the tightest polls for several seasons.

Sir Alex Ferguson tells the new issue of Inside United that picking a winner is more difficult than it has been in previous years when, for example, Wayne Rooney's overhead derby winner and Cristiano Ronaldo's rocket against Porto were hot favourites.

When asked what would be his choice, Sir Alex said: "It’s tough to pick as there is no obvious choice like there has often been in the past. But it’s hard to beat Nani’s strike against Chelsea early in the season, that was a great goal. Giggs’ late winner at Norwich deserves a shout because it summed up United: we keep going and never give in."

Both of Sir Alex's selections feature in the official shortlist of 12 goals, which you can watch again in a free ManUtd.com video. The winning goal will be announced at the prestigious Player of the Year dinner at Old Trafford on Monday 14 May.
