Michael Owen bid farewell to United on Thursday morning after revealing that Sir Alex had confirmed the club would not be offering him a new contract.
The striker, who joined the club in the summer of 2009 on a free transfer, has been beset by injuries for much of his stay at Old Trafford. Nevertheless, he has still popped up with some vital goals, including United's opener in the 2010 Carling Cup final win over Aston Villa and, of course, that last-gasp winner against Manchester City in the famous derby victory in September 2009.
Sir Alex wished Owen well following 17 goals in 52 appearances for the club, labelling him "a consummate professional and an influential figure in our dressing room."
In our free video above, we look back on seven of the best and most important goals from United's former no.7.
