Our summer mini-series takes a look at some of the positives and sub-plots from an enthralling season for Manchester United...
As fans around the world await United's first move in the 2012 transfer market, ManUtd.com is acknowledging the work done by last summer's signings during their debut campaign.
Spanish goalkeeper David De Gea and England internationals Phil Jones and Ashley Young all appeared in the first and last matches of a long season for the Reds, not to mention many more games inbetween. For them, there was no gradual introduction to life with one of the world's biggest football clubs; after a handful of outings on the pre-season tour, the trio were pitched straight into the competitive fixtures, adapting admirably.
By the end of the campaign, the three new boys had amassed 113 appearances between them and had come tantalisingly close to collecting a first league winner's medal with United. Whoever comes into Old Trafford this May, June or July will have three hard acts to follow when the action starts agains in August.
