Cleverley's curling effort from close to the left touchline – only his second strike for the club – pipped goals from Nani (Chelsea, Capital One Cup) and Robin van Persie (CFR Cluj, Champions League) to take the prize.
Although there was initially debate over whether Cleverley intended to shoot or cross, the midfielder took to social media to quickly clear up the confusion.
"Of course I meant it," he posted on Twitter on the evening of the match.
Tom's strike garnered 58 per cent of the vote, with Nani's dinked finish at Stamford Bridge collecting 21 per cent. Robin van Persie's second away at Cluj - a powerful finish after some deft control - took third spot with 11 per cent.
