United’s lead at the top of the Barclays Premier League was cut to 12 points on Monday as City recorded a 2-1 triumph in the Manchester derby at Old Trafford.
The visitors, who had to win in order to maintain any faint hopes of winning the title, took the lead on 51 minutes after the Reds lost possession in the middle of the park which allowed Garry Barry to feed James Milner to hit a deflected finish past David De Gea.
The Reds reacted magnificently and equalised thanks to the impressive Phil Jones, whose header cannoned in off the back of opposite centre-back Vincent Kompany. Parity was relatively short-lived, however, as Sergio Aguero netted a fine winner after 78 minutes.
As ever, club photographers John Peters and Matt Peters were in prime, pitchside positions to capture the action and you can view the best of their images in our gallery.
