MUTV pundit and ex-Red Sammy McIlroy assesses United's and City's engine rooms…
Michael Carrick and Yaya Toure
Michael Carrick has had an absolutely fantastic season. He’s a deep-lying midfielder and he breaks up opposition attacks but it’s his passing that has been unbelievable for us. He will be a key figure in the match. Equally, Yaya Toure is the most influential player City have got. When he plays well, City play well. So he can be really influential too.
Tom Cleverley and David Silva
I think Tom will be in the United side on Monday. His energy is unbelievable and he is getting better the more he plays. David Silva, on his day, is a match-winner for City. He has a great left foot and when he plays well, again, City can fire because he is that type of player.
Ryan Giggs, Gareth Barry and the other midfield men
Giggsy has played in more derbies than anyone and is another key player. He may be on the bench for United and can come on and influence the game. Barry breaks up attacking play and gives the ball to City’s attacking players. He’s an important player that sits in front of the back four and protects them. James Milner is an unsung hero for City. His work-rate is unbelievable; he's up and down, breaking up play, crossing balls into the box and scores the odd goal too. Elsewhere for United, Anderson could come in and Rooney and Kagawa can drop in there. Scholesy has been out a while but he has loads of derby games under his belt. So United have options and experience.
