Photographers had plenty to point their lenses at on Monday night as United drew with Chelsea during the first competitive home match of the David Moyes era.

The new boss walked out of the tunnel to great applause from fans inside Old Trafford before embracing opposite number Jose Mourinho - who rejoined the Blues as boss in the summer from Real Madrid.

Adding a fascinating sub-plot, Wayne Rooney started the match and the Reds striker did not disappoint, producing a performance of great energy and drive to earn his manager's praise after the final whistle.

Although United were perhaps the better team, the match was one of few chances to suggest how tight the title race will be this season. Notably, both defences were particularly impressive with Nemanja Vidic and John Terry catching the eye.

Thankfully, our official club snappers John and Matt Peters were on hand to capture the action and to help retell the story of the game, we’ve compiled a gallery of their best images.
