The last of United’s quartet of meetings with Olympiacos, this season’s Champions League last-16 opponents, took place on 23 October 2002 and ended in a fourth consecutive win for the Reds.

Wearing a blue European away kit in Athens, United looked to be heading for a comfortable win after goals from Laurent Blanc and Juan Sebastian Veron.

The Greeks fought back to level at 2-2, but the visitors retook the lead for good when Olympiacos goalkeeper Dimitrios Eleftheropoulos could not stop a fierce shot from Paul Scholes.
