Robin van Persie’s superb late equaliser in the FA Cup third round tie at West Ham has been voted Manchester United’s Goal of the Month for January.
In stoppage-time at Upton Park, the Dutchman expertly controlled Ryan Giggs’ sumptuous long ball before slotting home with his right foot to earn the Reds a replay and break Hammers hearts.
The strike was a runaway winner in the polls on our seven official language websites, picking up 49 per cent of the votes.
The winner of our competition, who picks up a home shirt signed by van Persie, is Raj Maharjan from Dublin.
In second place from the eight-goal shortlist was van Persie’s effort at Wigan (16 per cent), with Tom Cleverley’s curler in the West Ham tie third (11 per cent).
Also nominated were goals by Under-18s starlets Jack Barmby and James Weir v Bolton, van Persie v Liverpool and Wayne Rooney v Fulham and Southampton.
