Manchester United sealed a Barclays Premier League double over old foes Liverpool with a 2-1 win at Old Trafford on Sunday, the first home match of 2013.
The Reds dominated from the start and took the lead on 19 minutes as Robin van Persie latched onto Patrice Evra’s cross to clip a fine finish past helpless goalkeeper Pepe Reina.
After the break, Sir Alex’s men continued to attack the Merseysiders and soon doubled the advantage when Patrice Evra's header from van Persie’s cross went in off the head of Nemanja Vidic.
Any jubilation was shortlived, however, as Liverpool’s new signing Daniel Sturridge scored into an open goal after David De Gea did well to save Steven Gerrard’s powerful effort.
Nervy scenes followed but United were able to hang on and prompt scenes of joy inside the stadium.
As always, photographers including official club snappers John and Matt Peters were in attendance to capture the action. Our gallery features some of the best images of an enjoyable afternoon.
