Great captains: Bruce

What makes a great United captain? It's a question Manchester United Soccer Schools are asking in their Take the Lead campaign and we thought we’d try to answer it. ManUtd.com's James Tuck states the case for Steve Bruce...

What made him a great captain? Steve Bruce was a true lionheart. Though never afraid to bark orders and speak his mind, the rugged centre-back’s captaincy style was more about motivation and leading by example. Brave and dependable, Brucey was an inspiring skipper during United’s first Premier League title campaign in 1992/93 and in the Double-winning season the following year in 1993/94.

Most memorable moment? The best leaders always stand up to be counted in times of crisis and Bruce exemplified that with two famous late headers to sink Sheffield Wednesday in the 1992/93 run-in at Old Trafford.
