May's Player of the Month

There was a mixed bag of results in May for the champions as United ended the season 11 points clear of nearest challengers Manchester City at the top of the Barclays Premier League.

The Reds lost to Chelsea, defeated Swansea and then drew 5-5 at West Brom and Sir Alex Ferguson shuffled his pack in the fixtures which ensured that drawing up a short-list was slightly more difficult than usual.

However, we have nominated four players for the accolade - Jonny Evans, Phil Jones, Shinji Kagawa and Javier Hernandez - cast your vote here.

Evans played with his usual authority in defence against Chelsea and was particularly impressive in the first half at West Brom. An injury towards the end of the final fixture affected his mobility and he was substituted for Rio Ferdinand before the Baggies snatched an equaliser.

Phil Jones started all three games and performed with his usual energy and exuberance, making one memorable tackle against West Brom and working hard in midfield in the loss to Chelsea. In yet another illustration of his versatility, he played in different positions in each of the encounters and grew in stature as the campaign wore on.

Kagawa has shown positive signs that he can make a major impact next season, as predicted by Sir Alex. The Japan star scored a rare header to get the ball rolling at The Hawthorns and has been displaying the sort of invention and poise that marks him out as a top talent. Clearly, there is much more to come from last summer's signing from Borussia Dortmund, who actually won the first Player of the Month prize of the campaign. 

Few could argue against the inclusion of Hernandez after the Mexican shone on the final day, scoring the last-ever goal of the manager's reign - his 50th for the club. Although Chicharito could have added more goals, there was much more to his overall game and his inch-perfect cross created the opener. Of course, he also netted in the victory against
