In yet another illustration of his versatility, he played in different positions in each of the encounters and grew in stature as the campaign wore on.
Kagawa has shown positive signs that he can make a major impact next season, as predicted by Sir Alex. The Japan star scored a rare header to get the ball rolling at The Hawthorns and has been displaying the sort of invention and poise that marks him out as a top talent. Clearly, there is much more to come from last summer's signing from Borussia Dortmund, who actually won the first Player of the Month prize of the campaign.
Few could argue against the inclusion of Hernandez after the Mexican shone on the final day, scoring the last-ever goal of the manager's reign - his 50th for the club.
