Cardiff crackers

and Viollet on target for United.

And there were goals galore yet again for United when Tommy Taylor grabbed four in United’s 5-2 win at Old Trafford on 9 October 1954, Viollet getting in on the act with the other. However the Reds were shut out the following February, slipping to a 3-0 defeat in south Wales.

The two clubs have not met in the top flight since a 3-0 win for United at home in early 1962, and have not played each other at all since United’s season in Division Two in 1974/75, when Tommy Docherty's young side won 1-0 away and 4-0 at home.

United will visit the Cardiff City Stadium for the first time when they return to action from the current international hiatus on 24 November, and if the history of this fixture is anything to go by, there could be a few goals involved.
