Wayne Rooney has selected Adnan Januzaj's stunning second strike at Sunderland as Manchester United's Goal of the Month for October - a choice also favoured by more than 70 per cent of fans on the club's official websites.
The 18 year-old winger announced himself to the wider world by scoring both goals for the Reds in a vital 2-1 victory at the Stadium of Light, wowing fans and team-mates alike. Rooney told the club's official Twitter account @ManUtd, "Adnan's second goal is my Goal of the Month. To volley a ball like that and guide it into a corner takes a lot of ability and technique. It was a close game so it was also a vital goal for us."
Wayne also spoke highly of two other young players on the Goal of the Month shortlist, after picking out his second and third favourites. "At number two, I chose Michael Keane's goal [for the Under-21s vs Fulham]. This would be a great goal for anyone, never mind a defender! Michael's first touch is quality as he drags the ball around to face the goal, then he takes a touch to get it out of his feet and hit a powerful shot into the top corner.
"For my third choice, I picked Matthew Willock's goal [for the Under-18s vs West Brom]. His first touch is brilliant as he controls it out the air into space with the outside of his foot - great technique. He then has good awareness to spot the keeper off the line and not just lob it over him but whip it with pace over the keeper's head."
