Player: Bryan Robson
Match: Turkey 0-8 England, 14 November 1984
As was often the case during the 1980s, one of England's best performances was spearheaded by United’s very own Captain Marvel, Bryan Robson.
Leading the Three Lions into the vociferously partisan Inonu Stadium, Robson and his England team-mates silenced the crowd, ruthlessly dismantling their Turkish opponents. Robbo’s early header set the ball rolling on 14 minutes before he went on to notch another two goals to complete his first and only England hat-trick. A brace apiece for Tony Woodcock and John Barnes, added to a solitary strike from Robson’s future United team-mate Viv Anderson, ensured one of England’s biggest ever victories.
On a night that included many top individual performances, Robson stood out above them all as namesake Bobby Robson’s England marched on towards the 1986 World Cup finals.
