James Wilson has enjoyed a marvellous start to the season, scoring five times in the Barclays Under-18 Premier League and hitting a brace in the UEFA Youth League win over Bayer Leverkusen.
The fleet-footed striker has been captaining Paul McGuinness' Academy team and kept his nerve to convert the last-minute penalty in the 4-3 success for Nicky Butt's charges on Tuesday afternoon.
"He’s an exceptional player and a great talent," Butt told MUTV afterwards. "We’re all excited about his future if he just listens to his coaches and works as hard as he did tonight. He has got an abundance of pace and has great finishing ability.
"He’s a nice lad and listens and works hard. He has got all the attributes to be a top player for this club and, hopefully, he’ll keep playing like he did today for us."
