World Cup Reds: Chile

We run the rule over United stars' prospects of playing at the World Cup finals next year...

United player: Angelo Henriquez (2 caps, 2 goals)

Chances of Chile qualifying? Chile currently sit in fourth place in the South American group, enough to seal an automatic place in Brazil as things stand. With the host nation out of the picture, Jorge Sampaoli's men will be expected to progress but it's taken back-to-back wins against Paraguay and Bolivia to improve their situation after six defeats. A home game against sixth-placed Venezuela at the weekend looks another key fixture.

Henriquez's contribution so far? Still very much a novice at international level, his outstanding work at Under-20 level has pushed him into contention ahead of schedule. The 19-year-old has two senior goals to his name from only two caps and netted in the most recent game, a 6-0 thumping of Iraq, to remind Sampaoli of his predatory prowess.

Situation at United? After scoring on his senior debut against AIK Fotboll and also hitting the target for the Under-21s at West Brom, Henriquez was loaned out to Real Zaragoza. The move to the Segunda Liga side is designed to give him the best chance of making Brazil by playing regular first-team football. After making his debut against Barcelona 'B', he will look to hit the net regularly to underline his potential.

Likelihood of being involved in the squad? As one of Chile's hottest prospects, there must be every chance of Henriquez making the cut, even if he's an unlikely starter.

Remaining qualifiers: 6 September – Venezuela (home), 11 October – Colombia (away), 15 October – Ecuador (home).

More World Cup prospects: Hernandez's Mexico
