ManUtd.com's Mark Froggatt reported live from the Etihad Stadium...
19:50 Well, that’s it for my coverage of this afternoon’s Manchester derby. It’s been a disappointing day for everyone associated with United but thankfully, as both David Moyes and Wayne Rooney explained, there’s another match to look forward to – Wednesday’s Capital One Cup clash with Liverpool. And of course, we’ll be there to provide you with unrivalled coverage of the game. Until then, good night.
18:48 Notably, Moyes was also full of praise for Wayne Rooney’s performance: “I have to say I thought Wayne Rooney was arguably the best player on the pitch today. He certainly didn’t deserve to play on the losing team - that’s for sure. He was outstanding today and that’s probably as good a Wayne Rooney as I’ve seen. But going back to Robin, he’s a big miss for us.”
18:46 The manager went on to shed light on the groin injury that ruled Robin van Persie out of action at the Etihad: “I don’t think it’s that bad, we thought he was going to make it. He just felt something in his groin, he did a bit of training in the last couple of days, but he just felt it when he did any sharp movements and he didn’t want to aggravate it, so we took that decision.”
18:44 David Moyes has just appeared in front of the media and after such a disappointing defeat, the boss cut a frustrated figure – though he calm about its impact on the season: “I’m disappointed that we didn’t perform,” he explained. “We played very well in midweek so there was no reason for us not to perform well today. But it’s one game, there are plenty more to come. There is plenty of time for us to try and fix it.”
18:16 City manager Manuel Pelligrini is currently speaking to the press and, understandably, the Spaniard is pleased with his team’s performance this afternoon. “It was a very important result, normally you don’t expect to win 4-1 against Manchester United,” he explained.
