Twenty years ago today, the football world was moved to tears by some sad news - one of Manchester United’s most important figures, Sir Matt Busby, had died.
The outpouring of grief that followed the announcement was far from confined to followers of the Reds - fans of countless different clubs flocked to Old Trafford to pay their respects to the man Sir Bobby Charlton affectionately referred to as ‘the old man’.
With its forecourt covered in floral tributes and the old Scoreboard End adorned with scarves of many colours, the famous old stadium became a temporary shrine.
''He was probably the greatest manager English football has seen," said United legend Denis Law. "He was a true gentleman to everyone from the playing stars to the groundstaff boys."
Our gallery shows some of the scenes around Old Trafford in an incredibly poignant week during late January 1994.
