Following Fabio’s permanent move to Cardiff City, we’re reflecting on some of the Brazilian defender’s best moments in a Manchester United shirt.
After arriving with his twin brother Rafael from Fluminense in 2008, Fabio made.his first-team debut in an FA Cup clash against Tottenham in January 2009. However, his real breakthrough year was in the 2010/11 campaign when he scored his first goal for the Reds in an away win over Wigan and earned a league winner’s medal. He also started in the Champions League final against Barcelona – ahead of Rafael at right-back - and picked up his first senior international cap with Brazil.
Fabio was loaned out to QPR last season and was a regular in Harry Redknapp's team but could not prevent their relegation from the Barclays Premier League. He returned to Old Trafford for the current campaign and scored in the Capital One Cup encounter with Norwich in October, before making his final appearance for United in the FA Cup against Swansea earlier this month. He leaves the Reds with 56 games and three goals to his name, and everyone at the club would like to wish him well for the future.
