Keeper focus: George Dorrington

In a special feature running this week on ManUtd.com, Academy goalkeeping coach Alan Fettis provides the lowdown on the club's young stoppers...

George Dorrington (Born: Bristol, 17.6.1997)

"George is from the same age group as Dean Henderson, Under-17, and he has a great personality and character. He is a popular lad in the dressing room.

"He’s been unfortunate last season as he’s had a lot of growth injuries that have hindered his progress. When he came into the system from a local amateur club in Bristol, he was a little behind technically but he plays the game well and understands his position.

"He knows how to get his body in front of the ball and can distribute it pretty accurately with both feet, which is obviously a trait for a Manchester United goalkeeper. He’s just missed out a little bit last season, so he’s slightly behind at the moment, but he’s a good worker and somebody who will do what you want. That is why he will improve and catch up eventually.

"The injury problems he had were growth related and there is nothing you can do about that but give them time to heal. The staff will be expecting George and Dean Henderson to fight it out for the no.1 jersey during pre-season."
