Wayne Rooney has been backed to become Manchester United’s greatest-ever goalscorer by Gordon McQueen.
The former Reds defender made his prediction on MUTV’s popular post-match analysis programme, Big Match Debrief, while taking a detailed look at United's win at West Ham and the performance which earned Rooney the Man of the Match award.
The striker's pair of goals at West Ham took the 28-year-old's tally to 212 for United and put him into third place in the club’s list of all-time top scorers, headed by Sir Bobby Charlton on 249, with Denis Law in second place with 237.
“Charlton, Law and Rooney – that’s pretty impressive,” said Gordon. “And what an honour it would be for Wayne to be United’s greatest-ever goalscorer, that would be fantastic. If he stays injury-free, and he’s the type that doesn’t get a lot of injuries, he will overtake the two of them [Sir Bobby and Denis].”
Big Match Debrief will return with analysis of the Manchester derby at 18:00 GMT on Wednesday, 26 March. For details of how to watch MUTV, visit manutd.com/joinmutv.
