Europe: Bhoys beaten
Gordon Strachan's Celtic suffered the most slender of defeats in Spain, to leave Villarreal level on points with United in Group E.
Marcos Senna's superb free-kick sealed the 1-0 win for the Yellow Submarines, for whom ex-Reds striker Giuseppe Rossi played and almost scored.
Pole position in Group F still belongs to Bayern Munich but the German club had to come from behind to draw 1-1 at home with French champions Lyon. Fiorentina were held 0-0 at home in the same group by Steaua Bucharest.
The biggest comeback of the night was in Belarus where Juventus recovered from the shock of going 2-0 down to the unfancied FC BATE Borisov, eventually drawing 2-2. The Italians were grateful to Vincenzo Iaquinta for his vital double.
Real Madrid lead Juve's group, H, with two victories from the opening two games. Ruud van Nistelrooy scored what proved to be the winner in their 2-1 triumph away to Zenit St Petersburg.
Top scorers on the night were Arsenal who put four past Porto - one apiece
