Chelsea held by Hammers

Fears of a six-point deficit in the title race were dispelled on Sunday when United's rivals Chelsea could only draw 1-1 with West Ham.

Carlo Ancelotti's side were trailing at half-time to Alessandro Diamanti's penalty and needed a thrice-taken spot-kick of their own, by Frank Lampard, to draw level at Upton Park - the ground where the Reds won 4-0 just a fortnight ago.

Chelsea are consequently just four points clear of the champions and could be overhauled by New Year's Day, with both clubs playing two matches during the Christmas period.

The challengers play next, on Boxing Day, when they have a difficult trip to
