Patrice Evra has targeted maximum points from the final two games of 2009.
The Reds travel to Hull on 27 December and host Wigan three days later, and will be determined to get back to winning ways after two defeats in three matches.
Evra has been the only ever-present recognised defender during that period with a spate of injuries forcing United to reshuffle things at the back.
The French defender knows how important the festive period can be in the title race and is urging his team-mates to ensure they end the year on a high.
“It’s a crucial time. We lost against Aston Villa and Fulham but the target is to win our other games before January," he insisted. "We usually do well during this period and we want to again. It would be great to be in first place before January.”
Despite a disappointing display at Craven Cottage last Saturday, Evra feels United’s makeshift defence have done as well as they can and he believes the squad's adaptability could prove vital across the course of the season.
"The likes of Carrick and Fletcher have done well at the back because they have quality," added Evra. "They don’t have to play all season at the back but some games they can do it.
"It’s not easy for them but we’re working hard in training. I try to give experience at the back and we all make sure we speak to each other.
"It’s not easy but we have a strong squad, and you have to be able to play anywhere to win the title.”
