The silver lining from United's weekend horribilis has been stripped away with the news that Brad Friedel's red card has been rescinded.
The Aston Villa goalkeeper was due to miss his team's clash with the champions on 5 April through suspension, after being sent off during Liverpool's 5-0 win on Sunday.
However, the Football Association has since reviewed referee Martin Atkinson's decision and cleared Friedel to play in the vital league match at Old Trafford.
The American shot-stopper developed a reputation for thwarting and frustrating United during his time at Blackburn Rovers. His memorable Ewood Park performances against the Reds include the 1-1 draws in August 2004 when Alan Smith finally beat him in the 90th minute and in April last year when Carlos Tevez equalised with three minutes to spare.
Friedel has stopped United scoring on three occasions - at Ewood Park in 2003/04 (1-0) and Old Trafford in 2004/05 (0-0) and for Villa earlier this season at Villa Park (0-0).
