Tom Cleverley has hailed United’s 5-2 win over MLS All-Stars in Houston as the best performance of the club’s North America tour.
After a shock defeat in Kansas City, the Reds needed to bounce back and the young midfielder is adamant his side did just that.
“We looked a lot more lively and our passing was better,” Cleverley told MUTV. “We put on a good performance against a good team in a great stadium. The lads played well tonight, it was our best performance of the tour.”
Cleverley gained some valuable game time after replacing Gabriel Obertan in the first half following an injury to the Frenchman, and scored in spectacular style.
“Gabby got a little knock so I got more time on the field than I expected,” said Tom.
“I was ready to come on and I thought I did well. The goal was nice. It was probably the best goal I’ve scored. I flicked it over the lad’s head and it was a good finish with good composure. I could have had a couple more later on.”
Also on the scoresheet for United was new signing Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez. The Mexican marked his debut with an audacious lob over the goalkeeper.
“It seems like everyone loves him,” said Cleverley.
“He did well on the ball and it was a good finish for the goal. He has settled in with the lads really well, his English is good and he looks a really good player.”
