Manchester United were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw with Newcastle United in a hotly contested Barclays Premier League encounter at Old Trafford.

The Reds took a deserved lead through Javier Hernandez shortly after half-time when the Mexican deflected Steven Taylor’s attempted clearance past Tim Krul. The Magpies soon hit back, however, with Demba Ba converting a contentious penalty following Rio Ferdinand's challenge on Hatem Ben Arfa.

The visitors were then reduced to ten men as tempers flared, with Jonas Gutierrez receiving his marching orders for a second bookable offence. As a result, the Reds dominated possession in the closing stages but could not find a way past a resilient Newcastle defence.

As ever, Manchester United photographers John and Matt Peters and their colleagues from Getty Images were on hand to capture the best of Saturday's action, as you can see in our gallery.
