Last weekend's victory at Manchester City established a powerful position for the Reds going into the turn of the year, and Fletcher insists that it is important to keep setting a breathless pace in the title race.

"It feels good to be six points clear," he said. "It was good to win the derby, especially after what happened last year, but it is important that we kick on and think just because we beat Manchester City and are six points clear, we can't take it for granted.

"It is important that we keep pushing on and really putting pressure on Manchester City."
