Manchester United couldn't beat Swansea at the Liberty Stadium on Sunday, but for long periods the Reds outpassed and outclassed the Welsh side.

It wasn't a vintage United performance, mind you, but a number of Reds could hold their heads high as they left the pitch following the 1-1 draw.

Patrice Evra netted United's goal in the 16th minute to give Sir Alex's men the lead and was involved in a number of promising attacks down the left flank. He may be slightly disappointed with his positioning in the Swansea goal but was undoubtedly one of the Reds' brighest performers in Wales.

Behind Evra, David De Gea turned in another assured performance between the posts. He confidently caught the first Swansea corner of the day and was then tested from both close and long range. His distribution was also precise, although he may feel he should have parried Jonathan De Guzman's shot further away from the danger zone in the build-up to Swansea's goal.

In the centre of the park, Michael Carrick was outstanding. Not only did the midfielder make timely interceptions and shield the back four, he also started a multitude of Reds attacks with a mixture of incisive long and short passes. One particularly cutting ball released Ashley Young, whose shot forced the corner that led to Evra's goal. Carrick also hit the crossbar with a header in the second half.

Robin van Persie couldn't rescue three points for United but it wasn't for lack of trying. He put in a tireless shift and was always a danger when he received the ball. He struck the crossbar with an inventive volley and almost laid on goals for both Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez.
