The winger terrorised defences after Sir Alex raided Shakhtar Donetsk for his services in 1991 and was a key member of the first-ever Reds team to do the Double three years later. Currently assistant coach at Volga Nizhniy Novgorod, the 43-year-old still keeps tabs on the Barclays Premier League and is confident that United can avenge last term's defeats to Roberto Mancini's champions.
"I still watch United on TV and always try to do that when they play," Kanchelskis told ManUtd.com. "Every year, Manchester United have a strong team with strong coaches as well as the history and the atmosphere.
"I hope United win and I think they will because I remember last season when they lost 6-1 at Old Trafford and 1-0 away from home. Now it's a new year, a new championship and a new season and I think United are definitely stronger and are playing much better. So it's Manchester United to win - definitely to win."
