The champions fell behind at Stamford Bridge after Daniel Sturridge’s low stab deflected off Jonny Evans into the net to hand the home side an undeserved lead on 36 minutes.

Chelsea doubled and then tripled their advantage in the first five minutes of the second half as Juan Mata volleyed home before David Luiz headed in via Rio Ferdinand’s shoulder.
