Italy or a Spain, who are going to knock us out. Unfortunately, that’s what happened. I know we can say it was a little unfortunate to lose on penalties but Italy were by far the better team anyway."
In terms of an overall impression of the finals, Robson feels there have few surprises with the sides fancied to do well before the tournament providing most of the eye-catching performances.
"For me, it’s been the usual ones we thought would impress before the competition started," he explained. "Bastian Schweinsteiger and Germany were impressive before they lost in the semi-finals to Italy.
"Spain have been impressive too, just in the way they pass and keep the ball. I know everybody has been questioning the coach Vicente del Bosque about not playing with a striker. They've only played Fernando Torres up there in a couple of games, and Alvaro Negredo in the semi-final, but they still play great football and it’s good to watch. So it’s the usual players who have done it in big tournaments before and the usual teams."
