Patrice Evra is heading home from the European Championships after his French side were knocked out of the quarter-finals by defending champions Spain.
Xabi Alonso, who was making his 100th appearance for his country, headed the opener on 19 minutes before sealing a 2-0 victory for the Spanish with an injury-time penalty to set up a semi-final meeting with Portugal - who have Nani in their squad - on Wednesday night in Donetsk.
Spain dominated the opening half and while France improved in the possession stakes after the break, they never really troubled the Spaniards who always looked in control of proceedings.
The defeat marked the end of a disappointing tournament for Evra who was an unused substitute in the match after Manchester City's Gael Clichy was once again preferred at left-back.
Evra played the full 90 minutes of France's opening group game against England, but lost his place to Clichy for the remaining two group matches and the quarter-final clash with Spain.
