Nani is within two matches of winning Euro 2012 after helping Portugal to reach the semi-finals.
The United winger had a half-chance or two to break the stubborn resistance of Czech Republic in Warsaw, before his country and former club colleague Cristiano Ronaldo pipped him to it by powering a 79th-minute header past Petr Cech. The Chelsea goalkeeper had earlier parried away a long-range shot from Nani and although the latter's cross was converted by substitute Hugo Almeida, that 'goal' was rightly disallowed by English referee Howard Webb for offside.
"I had a couple of chances, Cristiano did, and Almeida as well," said Nani, who was the first player to be booked by Webb - for a foul on David Limbarsky - during a frustrating first half.
"Finally Ronaldo scored a goal, we won the game and that's the most important thing. Everyone is happy, we're very satisfied with the result. Every game [as we progress] is going to be more difficult but it was a great performance by all the players tonight and the whole team is feeling very confident. Now we have to rest and prepare for the big match."
