Player of the Month – May results
Ashley Young (36%)
Paul Scholes (33%)
Michael Carrick (21%)
Rio Ferdinand (5%)
Patrice Evra (5%)
The Reds played only two games in what was an anti-climactic end to the season – against Swansea and Sunderland – but Young starred in them both.
The winger scored the Reds’ second goal against the Swans with a neat curling finish and was arguably his side’s main attacking threat in that game and at the Stadium of Light.
Young (36%) pipped Paul Scholes (33%) in the fans’ poll to pick up the final monthly award – and his first – of 2011/12. Michael Carrick, Patrice Evra and Rio Ferdinand were the other nominees for May.
In all, eight different players shared the 10 Player of the Month awards during 2011/12. The full list of winners is as follows: Wayne Rooney (August, April), Nani (September), Javier Hernandez (October), David De Gea (November, February), Dimitar Berbatov (December), Antonio Valencia (January), Jonny Evans (March), Ashley Young (May).
